Ways to Release

Pressure builds up intermittently inside my head, tormenting and unbearable.  Each time, backed against the wall, gasping, my eyes roll back as I am stifled by life’s dark, merciless grip.  In the past, in desperation, I did what I had to do to survive.  One attack after another, instinct meted out two options:  explode or implode.  With rage, food, seclusion, and self-hurt, I dealt with it and endured it all.


Over the years, I have come to know my tormentor and all that it seeks.  So, now I retaliate with self-compassion and a stubborn refusal to quit.  With each act of selfness, I grow in strength and, alternately, the force of my depression weakens in retreat.  I can feel it. I am winning ground; the bouts of depression are fewer and farther between.  Armed with a growing understanding of my inner workings and the cycles that I go through, along with a bag full of mind-bending tricks, I am more ready than I have ever been.


Daily, these are the different ways I release.  Some are positive, healthy forms of release that are working for me.  Some are not.
