When Mommy Monster Comes Out to Play
(For Adults and Kids)
Once in a while, when we least expect, Mommy Monster comes out to play.
Her beautiful clothes turned to ugly rags, her silky locks in disarray.
Her face contorted. Her mouth in a scowl. Her words distorted, a gnarly growl.
“Where, oh where, has my real mommy gone?
Please come back soon, Mommy. This one is no fun!”
She yells. She hisses. She grumbles and roars.
She glares. She dares. She slams all the doors.
Her body looms in darkness and trembles with rage.
Her words spout venom at every last stage.
And just when you think it’s about to get worse…
Something magically happens that ENDS the curse.
Mommy appears, sweetly dressed just like before.
Her eyes with a twinkle, soft and loving once more.
She smiles with her heart. She twirls and she dances.
She says sorry, and asks for more second chances.
This time my voice whispers, “Mommy, please no.
Mommy Monster scares us. She’s got to go.
She yells. She hisses. She grumbles and roars.
She glares. She dares. She slams all the doors.
Please stay with us, Mommy. Don’t get so mad.
We don’t mean to do wrong stuff or be so bad.”
Then Mommy stopped. She looked at us close.
She dropped to her knees, so full of remorse.
With her eyes wide open, she was aghast
Seeing all the ugliness that had come to pass.
She held us tightly and looked in our eyes.
She thanked us for loving her and being so wise.
Mommy gave us her promise, despite any mistakes
She would get rid of her monster for all of our sakes.
