A couple of years ago, my sister NIR gave me some great advice. Speaking from personal experience, she advised that if I wanted to stay connected to my #BatchofBoys, I needed to learn to laugh with them. And, anything fart/poop/belch/barf/booger/butt-related was all I would need to hook them from ages 3 to 103!
I do see my sister’s point. I hear them talking nonsense with their dad, laughing their heads off every time something très disgusting comes up! It’s honestly hard for me to relate to their love of All Things Gross. It might be “a girl thing”… or it may be that I still hear that resounding voice in my ear, detailing how things should be clean and orderly and done a certain way. The mounds of laundry strewn on my floor, dishes in my sink and the COVID-quarantine semi-permanent tent in my formal living room all attest to the fact that I have made great progress in getting down and dirty. That, and the fact that I knew my little mischievous monkeys would be in cahoots trying to get me when I least expected it. So, this year, I couldn’t resist the urge to mess with them for April Fool’s Day!
There’s a booger In My Toothpaste!
Push a small raisin into the toothpaste tube. Make sure to push the raisin in far enough, so it is buried. When your victims (I mean, kids:), squeeze the toothpaste onto their toothbrush, they’ll find a nugget on their brush. Eeewww!! Beware, you might get one of those kids like my LittleK, who piped up, “Mommy, I ate it and it was good!” — Hahaha!
Hit or Miss??
All you need is some cardboard, markers, scissors and some creativity!
Plain and simple, BOYS bathrooms are gross! They are messier and a whole lot smellier! I can’t tell you how many times I have run in, bladder full, and plunked down, only to wonder what it is that is moist on the seat, and hope that the discoloration on the tile is due to aging! That’s why, as of late, my #BatchofBoys have been totally banned from my ensuite till future (waaaay in the future) notice!
Whose Poop Is This??
You can use Tootsie Rolls (for smooth poop), Mars Bars (for multicoloured poop), Oh Henry or Mr. Big (for lumpy poop). But, I was stuck upstairs with limited resources. I looked over and saw the scrap cardboard I had used for my Hit or Miss?? prank and decided to give it a shot. I soaked the cardboard and massaged it into just the right shape and it was perfect, right down to its torpedo tip.
It’s happened, so this one was too easy! Everyone was curious. There was some finger-pointing. All partook in discussion of size, texture, colour and probability << Science and Math covered for today!:) But, no one would help me clean it up! We all had a ton of fun, BigJ calling “child harassment!” while I chased them all over the house, scrambling high and low to get out of the way of the wayward poop! Click here for video and for a good chuckle 🙂
You Crack Me Up!
You don’t need to be Van Gogh. Just a few strokes to make wacky egg faces of surprise and terror that will make your little ones smile. Just a tip… the Sharpie works best when the eggs are at room temperature!
This last prank is a clean one. It was inspired by my MiddleZ, who recently upped the ante from microwaving his eggs to frying them in a pan. He’s sooo proud of his new accomplishment, that he’s been making eggs for himself and any takers for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Yesterday, I had to tell him to ease up on the poor eggs. This prank, with its empathy tug, got a big smile and an “Ohhhh, Mom!”
April Fool’s Day was fun from the start! I heard their padded feet and whispers, plotting away this morning, creeping Shaggy-Scooby style one behind the other to cover my toilet seat with cling-wrap. They might’ve gotten away with it, except for the little giggles that escaped them. With one eye open, just in case, I saw them close the door quiet as mice, and I jumped up to do the last of my dirty deeds. I’m so glad I did. We needed it. In this time of social-distancing, self-isolation and prolonged uncertainty, we needed a GOOD laugh! And, boy, we got it!! 🙂
